If you're satisfied you have it, you can now check the dizzy / rotor. If you feel confident finding #4 compression stroke TDC with the thumb, do it.ĭo it 2-3 times to get a good feel for it. My new one was off by 3* so I had to paint a new timing mark line on it. Even a new one can be off from the get go. If the balancer is of age and has slipped, it will probably continue to slip therefore, you might want to get a new one from JLEMOND. Once we establish that the motor is indeed on #4 compression stroke TDC, this will establish your timing mark on the balancer no matter where it falls.

You can not use the balancer for those settings. If you need help getting the other stuff to match up, crank and cam timing marks, dizzy #4, holler. How damn high does your timing mark tab go? :shock: Have you tried the above and your getting 55*? Upon satisfactory timing, hold dizzy and carefully tighten hold down bolt. Turn the dizzy one way or other to advance / retard timing.Ĩ. Proper timing for your application is 6 degrees 800 rpm.ħ. At idle speed, 800 rpm or so in your case, read your timing at the tab / timing mark on the balancer.Ħ.

Loosen dizzy lightly where there is still some resistance but turnable.Ĥ.
